Behind the Art

The exploration of life, death & pleasure through the compressive lens of social media is a confrontation we must face. “American Vanitas” is a modern take on the VANITAS paintings of the Renaissance masters. These paintings featured heavy symbolism showing the transience of life [ through fruits, animals, intellectual pursuits], the futility of pleasure [ luxuries, carnal desires etc] , and the certainty of death [skulls, war, plague].

Her modern interpretation brings forth the unique cultural parallels that are brought to our attention through social media, modern news, & globalism. What do we think of when we think of life, death, & pleasure? & how does social media impact our interpretations.

"When I create-I seek to force a confrontation with the viewer.

Art is to me- a very primal process & one that transcends time. It
is both a practice and form of devotion. Art is as of now the only
medium that transcends different layers of reality"
